Postdoc Rhizosphere Microbiology - CAES

Post-doctoral Scientist Rhizosphere Microbiology

University of Connecticut
Mansfield, Connecticut,
U.S.A.

A postdoctoral position is anticipated in the Department of Plant Pathology and Ecology at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) in New Haven, CT. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to investigate the community structure and plant health functions of protists in crop rhizospheres, as part of a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional team involving the labs of Drs. Lindsay Triplett and Blaire Steven at CAES and Daniel Gage of the University of Connecticut. The scientist will characterize the taxonomic diversity of protists in the rhizospheres of field-grown plants, and will measure the interactions of selected protist isolates in determining microbiome structure, plant health, and soil properties. The project is anticipated to yield novel research directions that the scientist could build upon in future academic positions.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. by the start of employment with research expertise in microbiology, microbial ecology, protistology, plant pathology, or a related field. Experience in taxonomic profiling of microorganisms, Illumina sequencing and analysis, and experimentation on plants or soil is strongly preferred. Successful applicants will demonstrate evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.

Appointment: The initial appointment will be for one year, with funding for renewal for two additional years. Starting salary is $48,192 with health and dental benefits. The position is expected to be available starting June 1st , but the start date is flexible. Travel funds will be available for participation in conferences and workshops.
