The Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology, University of California, Riverside, invites applicants for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor. The position will be available July 1, 2016, and carries a 50% research appointment in the Agricultural Experiment Station and a 50% teaching appointment in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. The department currently has 17 ladder-rank faculty and three Cooperative Extension Specialists. Opportunities for collaborations are available with existing programs conducting applied and fundamental research in our department and college. The successful candidate will develop an innovative and problem-solving plant pathology program, using both basic and applied research that focuses on soil- and water-borne plant pathogens. Research on root-associated Oomycete, fungal, or bacterial pathogens is preferred. For example, species of Pythium, Phytophthora, Olpidium, Fusarium, Macrophomina, Agrobacterium, and Pectobacterium are major pathogens of California's irrigated crops, which include strawberries, melons, vegetables, field crops, grapes, temperate tree crops, avocado, citrus, and other subtropical and desert crops.
