Dr. Sjogren's field of expertise is Environmental Microbiology. He has thought at the University of Vermont for over 25 years and conducted microbiology research on Lake Champlain. His work included the monitoring and cataloging of lake and well water bacteria. The research in his lab also involved the investigation of antibiotic resistance in these bacteria and examining the influence of environmental factors on these bacterial communities. Even though he retired a few years ago he could not stay away from microbiology entirely. Today he is still heavily involved in many aspects of the monitoring of water quality in his community.
